Looker- Finance Overview

Return to Financial Applications

Looker is UCR’s data and analytics portal for visualization and reporting. Looker - Finance houses three finance datasets for ad-hoc reporting and queries. The three datasets provided for financial reporting are listed below.

  • Finance
  • Payroll Distributions
  • Banner Student Receivables

The application in EACS is titled "Looker-Finance. " Each role corresponds to a dataset in Looker, and adding a role grants access to the corresponding dataset. If you do not see the Looker icon in the R'Space Authorized Apps, it is likely that you have not been assigned a Looker - Finance role in UC Riverside’s Enterprise Access Control System (EACS) by your SAA. Work with your department contact(s). Your department determines the right access for you.

Role Assignments

Role Name Description
Finance
  • The Financial Transaction Detail report (A.K.A. General Ledger), Oracle Financials inquiry, and dashboards should be sufficient for most users. This dataset is a supplement for data analysis.
  • Oracle Budget (TBD): Oracle Budget details will be provided in future releases.
Payroll Distribution
  • Payroll Distribution data is sensitive, and access should be restricted based on the user’s job role and job requirements.
  • Looker Payroll Distribution details contain the legal name. Please ensure that users being provisioned have received the required training and signed appropriate disclosure forms according to campus guidance.
Banner Student Receivables
  • The Banner Student Receivables data provides transactional details for student and non-student accounts. Each transaction is classified using unique detail codes that indicate specific charges and payments—ranging from tuition, fees, housing, and financial aid for students to utility charges and lease payments for non-students. These transactions are then mapped to corresponding Chart of Accounts (COA) chartstrings, enabling their posting to the Oracle Financials general ledger.

For student transactions, identifiers such as Student ID and Last Name pinpoint the individuals involved, and Term Code denotes the relevant academic term. Non-student accounts represent billings from UCR departments offering services and products to various entities, including government bodies, contractors, employees, or outside agencies.

  • Student data is sensitive, and access should be restricted based on the user’s job role and job requirements.  Banner details contains data subject to FERPA requirements
